Eleanor speaking in 1939

This is a rare recording of part of a speech that Eleanor gave in 1939. The occasion was a luncheon meeting of the National Council for Equal Citizenship celebrating twenty one years since women got the vote. Eleanor was the second president of the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship, from 1919 until 1929. In March 1932 the executive agreed to divide the work of the Union between two separate organisations – the National Council for Equal Citizenship and the National Union of Guilds for Citizenship (Townswomen’s Guilds).
